OUR CHARITY PROJECT

A Safe Home
After The Flood

Rebuilding Lives, one house at a time

A small home can make a big difference

Story Behind The Project

Background

After the devastating floods of August 2024, a newly married couple in Fatikchhari was left living in a severely damaged and unsafe shelter. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, ACI Student Chapter CUET initiated a home-rebuilding project under yearly Charity event done by the Chapter to provide the family with a safe and permanent residence. As an engineering response to a damaged structure ultimately became something far greater: a safe home, restored dignity, and a new beginning for a family in need. The project reflected the true purpose of civil engineering: using technical knowledge to protect lives and build hope.

How We Worked

The project began with an initial site survey, followed by a family selection and condition-assessment survey to verify the extent of the damage and understand the family’s needs. After discussions with the Fatikchhari UNO, the team proceeded with architectural planning, design development, cost estimation, materials purchasing, and contractor appointment.

A total of BDT 54,000 was raised through contributions from the Fatikchhari UNO, Civil Engineering faculty members of CUET , alumni, the chapter committee, and general student of the university. Following the procurement and transportation of construction materials, the construction phase commenced under the regular supervision of chapter members. Several site monitoring and quality-control visits were conducted to ensure that the work followed the approved design and progressed according to schedule.

After more than three months segemneted with surveying, planning, fundraising, procurement, construction, and supervision, the completed house was officially handed over to the family on 2 January 2025.
